(since Sydney is sleeping and sleeping, the dress went out to play without her)I have been dying to make Sydney a summer dress, but couldn't justify buying fabric or a pattern for a little girl who has plenty of summer clothes. But I had this lingering vision of her running around our yard in a flowy little dress that mommy made for her and therefore it wouldn't matter when she wiped potting soil on it or ground some dirt into it crawling down the steps or smeared a popsicle all over it. (For some reason our washer isn't actually washing our clothes lately, it's just taking them for a wet ride and letting them keep the evidence of the fun we've had in them.)
So, I was playing around online and I found this wonderful little tutorial for how to make a dress out of a button up shirt. I ran to the basement and raided the leaning tower of Pisa constructed of stuff to be taken to Goodwill and I was on my way.
As always, I made an early mistake because I was so distracted by my excitement over a new crafty adventure and then had to make some adjustments from there, but we have a new little dress to play in made out of a shirt I used to wear to work, complete with highlighter stain that I didn't notice until the dress was complete. yahoo. Now I am pacing outside Sydney's door waiting for her to wake up so she can try it on and I can finalize the straps. My mom made me cute little outfits when I was a little girl and I feel as though I am living out part of my destiny or something as I make something for my little girl. (FYI, my mom also made her own maternity wardrobe. I clearly have come to this crafty stage in my life via genetics.)
